About Me

I have a unique perspective of autism as I am autistic (identified as an adult), my children (young adults) are autistic, I specialise in teaching autistic children, and I am an autism researcher.

I am a highly experienced teacher; and have taught in mainstream primary and secondary schools, special schools, and alternative provisions. I am also a qualified SENCo, and have been a Lead Teacher in an autism resourced provision, and a SENCo in a mainstream secondary school. Although no longer school-based, I still enjoy working with children and young people, and specialise in tutoring autistic children of all ages, and mentoring for neurodivergent adults, young adults, and teenagers.

I am an experienced autism speaker, trainer and consultant, having travelled across the country and internationally to deliver talks and training sessions on a wide variety of topics to a range of attendees, including parents and professionals from education, health and the care sector. I started my business in 2014 as I realised there was a need for autism speakers and trainers with both personal and professional experience.

I am also an NHS England approved Facilitating Trainer for The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism for staff from health and social care. My two children are both approved co-trainers (Experts with Lived Experience) for the autism section of the course, with my youngest also being a co-trainer for the Learning Disability section.

In addition, I enjoy carrying out autism research. In early 2023 I passed an MSc in Psychology, which included a research project on the experiences of late-diagnosed autistic women of Black and Black mixed-heritage, including myself. I first presented my findings at an international autism conference in Poland in autumn 2022, and subsequently at other events in England. My previous postgraduate research looked at effective transition from primary school to secondary school for autistic children.

I am particularly interested in exploring the impact of intersectionality on autistic people from marginalised groups. I am taking this interest further as I am studying for a PhD, with my research exploring the school experiences of Black and Black mixed heritage women and girls who were late-identified as autistic.

Outside of work and study, I enjoy listening to music, reading, playing with my dog, and going to see my favourite football team play. I love sci-fi programmes, in particular Doctor Who and all Star Trek series. I also love watching Marvel (MCU) films.
